This is a picture of the matter that is found in the galaxy cluster that is named 1E 0657-56. informally, this is called the bullet cluster. This "Bullet Cluster" is 3.4 billion light years away, and you cane see it's individual galaxies in this picture. the two clouds of hot x-ray emitting gas are shown in red. Their mass is greater than all of the galaxies visible in this picture. the bullet-shaped cloud of gas at the right was distorted during the titanic collision between two galaxy clusters that created the larger bullet cluster itself. Also, this image gives evidence that dark matter exists, because of the clear seperation of dark matter and gas clouds seen in this picture.
